HEALTH AND SAFETY

Now that we will have some students back in school it is especially important that we are able to monitor the health of our community.

Please continue to let us know if a close family member or student has tested positive for Covid-19 or has had close contact with someone who has tested positive.  Please communicate this with us even if your child is learning remotely.

Please also continue to monitor the health of your children. Keep them home and let us know if they exhibit any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever (100.4 degrees or higher)
  • Chills or shaking chills
  • Uncontrolled new cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough)
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • New loss of taste or smell

FILMMAKING OPPORTUNITIES

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:

Student filmmakers are invited to submit short film projects, music videos and webseries to the Bridgeport Film Festival. The submission fee will be waived for all students who use the code BPTStudents2021. Submission instructions and guidelines can be found on the Groundwork Bridgeport website at www.BridgeportFilmFest.org. The final deadline for film submissions is April 2, 2021—though extensions may be available on a case-by-case basis—and any updates will be shared on the Groundwork Bridgeport website: https://groundworkusa.org/network/groundwork-bridgeport/

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:

Groundwork Bridgeport would like to invite students to participate in a free screenwriting workshop series hosted by their festival director, professional actor and screenwriter Jason A. Coombs. Participants will learn how to write compelling screenplays from start to finish, focusing on storytelling, characters, dialogue, and the basics of film production. By the end of the program, participants will have written their own screenplays, a selection of which will be performed by real actors during the festival this summer!

The workshop will take place over Zoom and across six sessions on Saturdays in February and March, and it is open to high school or late middle school students.  Groundwork Bridgeport asks that anyone who would like to participate fill out this short interest form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfb1H49zbb9wFGxZDERCUT9hp5MOfXAajQttFcGip2-IZTveQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

FREE SWIM LESSONS

Our next six week swim lesson session begins this Saturday, January 9.  If you have not already registered, please respond to this email if you, your Bridge student or any other family members would like to participate.

SUPPORT FOR PARENTS

Attached below, please find a flier for a workshop in which parents can talk about the challenges of supporting students during the pandemic and learn strategies for helping their children.

The workshop will be held next Tuesday, January 12th and is called, A Place at the Table: A Parent-to-Parent Conversation about the Importance of Attendance and Supporting Our Kids in School.  This time together will offer families the chance to learn about meaningful strategies and key resources to help connect students with learning.  This webinar will offer live co-presenter translation in Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic.
