The Bridge Academy is a college preparatory charter school whose main mission is to prepare inner city students for college. The Goal of the social studies curriculum is to prepare ALL students for the rigors of higher education. The college preparatory program has been designed and incorporated into the social studies curriculum to provide the students with specific educational and life skills. The history curriculum will incorporate reading, writing and public speaking skills as main components of all of its units. The Bridge Academy will implement an aligned curriculum from 8-12 grades that will give students the ten skills necessary to be successful in college, life and future careers. This curriculum will culminate in a senior project at the end of 12th grade that will test the skills learned during the six years the students has attended the Bridge Academy. The Goal of the history department is that upon graduation from the Bridge Academy ALL students will be able to:

  1. Communicate effectively, using listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
  2. Develop a well written, properly formatted research papers as well as persuasive essays.
  3. Solve problems using critical and creative thinking
  4. Formulate strategies to locate, evaluate, and apply information.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of diverse cultures, including global and historical perspectives.
  6. Create strategies that can be used to fulfill personal, civic, and social responsibilities.
  7. Apply the skills of conflict resolution and empathy
  8. Use computer and emerging technologies effectively.
  9. Develop the social skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and diverse world.
  10. Recognize the impact humans have on the environment and learn the skills necessary to adapt to and contribute to the development of a sustainable planet.                                                                   Field Trip to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC
